The Herero and Nama massacres took place in the territory of what is now Namibia, between 1904 and 1908, in the context of rebellion against the german colonial rule. 70% of the Herero and 50% of the Nama ethnicities (75,000 people in total) died in combat and as a consequence of hunger and lack of access to water.
